Millennials for Sustainability (MFS) is building a network of dependable Medical Courier Independent Contractors to provide secure, timely, and professional transportation services for healthcare and medical clients.

Medical Couriers may be responsible for transporting medical specimens, laboratory materials, pharmaceuticals when authorized, medical supplies, equipment, records, and other healthcare-related materials between laboratories, hospitals, medical offices, clinics, pharmacies, care facilities, and other approved locations.

Because these assignments may involve sensitive, time-critical, or regulated materials, we are looking for contractors who understand that medical courier work requires more than simply making a delivery. Reliability, confidentiality, chain of custody, safe handling, and accurate documentation matter.

Responsibilities

Medical Courier Contractors may be responsible for:

• Picking up and delivering medical specimens, supplies, equipment, documents, and other authorized materials.

• Completing scheduled routes as well as time-sensitive or on-demand assignments.

• Maintaining accurate pickup, delivery, mileage, and chain-of-custody documentation.

• Verifying packages and delivery information before leaving pickup locations.

• Following client requirements for specimen and medical-material handling.

• Maintaining required temperature conditions when applicable to an assignment.

• Using appropriate transport containers, coolers, biohazard packaging, or other required equipment.

• Protecting confidential information encountered during assignments.

• Obtaining required signatures, electronic confirmations, or other proof of delivery.

• Immediately communicating delays, damaged packages, temperature concerns, spills, accidents, or other incidents.

• Maintaining a clean, reliable, and professional vehicle suitable for accepted assignments.

• Following designated routes, delivery windows, facility-access procedures, and client instructions.

• Maintaining professional conduct when entering hospitals, laboratories, medical offices, government facilities, and other client locations.

• Following applicable safety, infection-control, exposure-control, and hazardous-material procedures relevant to the materials being transported.

• Maintaining the security of transported items and never leaving sensitive materials unattended when prohibited by the applicable procedure.

Required Vehicle & Insurance Qualifications

Applicants must:

• Own or have consistent lawful access to a reliable personal vehicle appropriate for medical courier assignments.

• Maintain a valid driver's license.

• Maintain current vehicle registration.

• Maintain their own automobile insurance that permits the vehicle to be used for the applicable business/commercial courier activity.

• Maintain commercial/general liability insurance with limits of at least $1,000,000, and provide proof of coverage before accepting applicable assignments.

• Maintain any additional insurance required by a particular client, contract, jurisdiction, or scope of work.

• Maintain their vehicle in safe operating condition.

• Be responsible for their own fuel, routine maintenance, repairs, insurance, and other vehicle operating expenses unless a specific contract expressly states otherwise.

Driving Record Requirements

Medical Courier Contractors must have a clean and acceptable driving record appropriate for the transportation responsibilities of the position.

Applicants must be willing and able to:

• Provide information necessary for MFS or an authorized screening provider to obtain and review a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) when required.

• Complete any required authorization, disclosure, or consent documentation associated with an MVR check.

• Accurately disclose requested driving-history information.

• Provide documentation concerning accidents, suspensions, revocations, or moving violations when required for contractor qualification.

• Maintain an acceptable driving record throughout their relationship with MFS.

• Immediately report any change in driver's-license status that could affect their eligibility to perform transportation assignments.

Eligibility for individual assignments may depend upon MFS, client, insurer, or contract-specific driving standards.

Required Qualifications

Candidates should also have:

• Strong reliability and time-management skills.

• Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions.

• Ability to maintain accurate delivery and chain-of-custody records.

• Ability to use a smartphone for navigation, communication, electronic signatures, photographs, and delivery applications.

• Ability to safely lift and transport moderate loads associated with medical supplies or equipment.

• Professional communication and customer-service skills.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive information.

• Ability to work independently without continuous supervision.

• Ability to recognize when a package, specimen, or delivery condition requires escalation rather than attempting to resolve an issue outside their authorized scope.

• Ability to meet applicable client background-screening, identification, health-facility access, or security requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates with previous experience in:

• Medical or laboratory courier services.

• Healthcare logistics.

• Specimen transportation.

• Pharmacy or healthcare delivery.

• Last-mile delivery or route-based courier services.

• Hospitals, laboratories, clinics, pharmacies, or healthcare environments.

• Chain-of-custody documentation.

• Temperature-controlled transportation.

• HIPAA/privacy awareness.

• Bloodborne Pathogens training.

• OSHA safety practices.

• First Aid/CPR/AED certification.

• DOT or hazardous-material transportation requirements, when applicable to the specific materials being transported.

• Commercial, government, or healthcare contracting.

Independent Contractor Requirements

This is an independent contractor opportunity, not a guaranteed-hours employee position. Routes and individual assignments may be offered based on client demand, MFS contract awards, geographic coverage, contractor availability, vehicle suitability, credentials, and individual project requirements.

Contractors operate as independent businesses and are responsible for maintaining their own vehicle, automobile insurance, $1 million liability coverage, business registrations, applicable licenses or permits, taxes, fuel, maintenance, mobile phone, and other operating expenses, except where a specific contract states otherwise.

Some medical courier assignments may have additional requirements because the transportation of certain specimens, pharmaceuticals, biological materials, hazardous materials, or other regulated items can be subject to specific packaging, training, documentation, or transportation rules. Contractors will only be assigned work for which they meet the applicable requirements.

A medical courier may be carrying something that directly affects another person's care. A delayed specimen, lost document, improperly handled package, or broken chain of custody can have consequences well beyond an ordinary missed delivery.
