Millennials for Sustainability (MFS) is seeking dependable, skilled Land & Campus Maintenance Technicians to join our network of independent contractors. Contractors will support the maintenance, appearance, safety, and functionality of properties managed or serviced by MFS, including commercial properties, schools and campuses, government facilities, community spaces, nonprofit properties, residential developments, and outdoor grounds.

This position is ideal for independent professionals or small businesses experienced in landscaping, groundskeeping, property maintenance, environmental services, or general site upkeep.

Responsibilities

Land & Campus Maintenance Technicians may be contracted to perform:

• Routine landscaping and grounds maintenance.

• Grass cutting, edging, trimming, and general lawn care.

• Brush, vegetation, and overgrowth management.

• Leaf, branch, and natural debris removal.

• Tree and shrub maintenance within the contractor's authorized scope.

• Planting, mulching, soil preparation, and landscape-bed maintenance.

• General property and campus cleanup.

• Litter collection and waste sorting/removal.

• Storm and seasonal cleanup.

• Walkway, parking-area, and common-area maintenance.

• Light exterior property maintenance and minor repairs within the contractor's qualifications.

• Indoor or outdoor site cleanup associated with maintenance projects.

• Inspection of assigned areas for potential hazards, damage, or maintenance needs.

• Documentation of completed work through photographs, checklists, service reports, or other required records.

• Safe operation and maintenance of landscaping and groundskeeping equipment.

• Coordination with MFS project managers, clients, facility personnel, and other contractors.

• Compliance with project specifications, work orders, schedules, environmental requirements, and site-specific safety procedures.

Assignments will vary based on the needs of each MFS client or contract.

Required Qualifications

Contractors should have:

• Hands-on experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, property maintenance, environmental maintenance, facilities support, or a related trade.

• Ability to safely use common landscaping and maintenance equipment, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, hand tools, and other equipment appropriate to the accepted assignment.

• Ability to perform physically active work, including standing, walking, bending, reaching, carrying, and safely lifting moderate loads.

• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and site conditions.

• Knowledge of basic equipment, workplace, and environmental safety practices.

• Ability to follow written scopes of work, work orders, site instructions, and client specifications.

• Reliable communication and the ability to document completed work.

• Ability to work independently and complete accepted assignments within established timelines.

• Professional conduct when working on client properties.

• Reliable transportation to and from project locations.

• Access to a vehicle capable of transporting the contractor's necessary tools and equipment.

• Appropriate tools, equipment, and PPE necessary to complete accepted assignments unless MFS specifies otherwise.

• All licenses, permits, registrations, or professional credentials required by law for the specific services being performed.

• Appropriate business/general liability insurance and any other coverage required by the specific project or contract, with proof of coverage when requested.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to contractors with:

• 2+ years of professional landscaping, groundskeeping, facilities, or property-maintenance experience.

• Experience maintaining schools, campuses, government properties, commercial facilities, multifamily properties, parks, community spaces, or large acreage.

• Previous independent-contractor, subcontractor, or small-business experience.

• Experience with land clearing, brush removal, vegetation management, storm cleanup, debris removal, or property restoration.

• Experience with sustainable landscaping, native plants, soil health, composting, erosion prevention, habitat restoration, or environmentally responsible land-management practices.

• OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR/AED, equipment-operation, or other relevant safety credentials.

• Experience reading scopes of work and completing commercial or government work orders.

• Experience estimating labor, materials, equipment, and project timelines.

• Access to commercial landscaping equipment, trucks, trailers, or other specialized equipment.

• Ability to supervise or provide a qualified crew when larger assignments require additional personnel.

• Experience documenting work for commercial, municipal, or government contracts.

• Strong professional references and/or photographs or a portfolio of previous work.

Independent Contractor Requirements

This is an independent contractor opportunity, not a guaranteed-hours position. Projects may be offered based on MFS contract awards, client demand, geographic location, contractor capabilities, equipment, availability, and project requirements.

Contractors operate as independent businesses and are responsible for maintaining their own applicable business registrations, insurance, licenses, transportation, tools, equipment, PPE, taxes, and operating expenses, except where a particular MFS contract specifically provides otherwise.

Some assignments may require additional screening, site orientation, background checks, security clearance/access procedures, or specialized credentials before work can begin.
