Emergency Response Instructor — Independent Contractor

MFS Safety Training Services is seeking knowledgeable, engaging, and dependable Emergency Response Instructors to join our growing network of independent contractors.

Emergency Response Instructors provide hands-on safety and emergency-response education to workplaces, schools, childcare and adult-care organizations, healthcare professionals, youth programs, nonprofits, government agencies, community organizations, and other MFS clients.

Our instructors do more than deliver presentations. We want professionals who can create an environment where participants practice skills, ask questions, build confidence, and leave better prepared to respond during a real emergency.

Responsibilities

Emergency Response Instructors may be contracted to:

• Conduct CPR, AED, First Aid, BLS, and other authorized emergency-response courses.

• Provide instruction in accordance with the standards and curriculum of the applicable certifying organization, including HSI, American Heart Association (AHA), and American Red Cross (ARC).

• Demonstrate and evaluate hands-on skills, including CPR, AED use, choking response, first aid, and other skills within the instructor's authorized scope.

• Facilitate realistic scenarios and skills-practice sessions.

• Evaluate participant performance and determine successful completion according to applicable program requirements.

• Maintain accurate attendance, skills-evaluation, course, and certification documentation.

• Properly set up, inspect, clean, sanitize, and maintain training equipment.

• Ensure training environments are organized, professional, inclusive, and conducive to learning.

• Communicate professionally with MFS staff, client representatives, students, and other instructors.

• Arrive prepared and on time for assigned training engagements.

• Follow MFS client requirements, site-specific safety procedures, and applicable training-center policies.

• Submit required course documentation promptly following each assignment.

• Maintain current instructor credentials and complete required updates or continuing education.

• Travel to client locations when accepting on-site training assignments.

Required Qualifications

Candidates should possess:

• Current instructor authorization through HSI, American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or another recognized emergency-care training organization applicable to the courses being taught; OR meet the prerequisites necessary to complete an approved instructor-development pathway before independently teaching certification courses.

• Current provider-level certification(s) appropriate to the courses being instructed.

• Strong understanding of CPR, AED use, First Aid, emergency response, and basic safety principles.

• Ability to correctly demonstrate physical skills and coach participants through hands-on practice.

• Strong verbal communication and presentation skills.

• Ability to teach individuals with different learning styles, backgrounds, ages, and levels of experience.

• Ability to maintain accurate course records and follow certification-program requirements.

• Professional, dependable, and responsive communication.

• Reliable transportation and the ability to report to accepted training locations.

• Ability to pass any background screening or site-access requirements required for specific contracts, schools, healthcare facilities, government facilities, or other client locations.

• Ability to work independently while representing MFS professionally.

Instructor Development Pathway

Already-certified instructors from HSI, AHA, and American Red Cross are encouraged to apply.

MFS can also provide an HSI instructor-development pathway for qualified candidates who would like to add HSI instructor authorization or become authorized to teach applicable HSI programs.

For candidates who require HSI instructor training, training fees begin above $85 and may vary depending on the required program, credentials, materials, and authorization pathway.

Completion of instructor training does not automatically guarantee contracted assignments. Contractors must satisfy applicable credentialing, authorization, performance, and MFS onboarding requirements before being assigned to independently conduct certification courses.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional consideration may be given to candidates with experience in:

• Multiple training systems, including HSI, AHA, and/or ARC.

• BLS and healthcare-provider instruction.

• Pediatric CPR/First Aid/AED.

• Bloodborne Pathogens.

• Stop the Bleed or bleeding-control education.

• Emergency Action Planning.

• Workplace or occupational safety.

• Fire safety or fire-extinguisher training.

• Active-violence/emergency-response education.

• OSHA or general-industry safety training.

• Teaching youth, educators, childcare professionals, healthcare workers, caregivers, or corporate groups.

• Providing on-site training for employers or government organizations.

• Public speaking, adult education, workforce development, or skills-based instruction.

• Bilingual or multilingual instruction.

• Experience working as an independent instructor, contractor, or training business.

Independent Contractor Requirements

This is an independent contractor opportunity, and assignments may be offered based on client demand, geographic location, instructor credentials, availability, and specific contract requirements.

Contractors are responsible for maintaining any business registrations, licenses, insurance, certifications, transportation, tax obligations, and other requirements applicable to their independent business and contracted scope of work.

Depending on the assignment, MFS may provide certain curriculum materials or training resources, while instructors may be required to provide or have access to appropriate training equipment. Specific equipment requirements will be communicated before an assignment is accepted.

We're especially interested in instructors who understand that earning a certification card and being prepared for an emergency are not always the same thing.

Our instructors should be able to explain the why, demonstrate the how, correct mistakes respectfully, and give participants enough hands-on practice to build genuine confidence.
