Millennials for Sustainability (MFS) is seeking dependable CDL and Non-CDL Owner-Operators to join our growing independent contractor network. Contractors may support commercial, government, community, environmental, construction, and logistics projects by transporting freight, equipment, materials, supplies, debris, machinery, and other authorized loads.

We are interested in experienced transportation professionals who operate their own vehicles and understand the importance of safe driving, regulatory compliance, reliable delivery, proper documentation, and professional client service.

Responsibilities

Owner-Operators may be contracted to:

• Safely transport freight, equipment, materials, supplies, or other authorized loads.

• Complete local, regional, or longer-distance assignments depending on project requirements.

• Perform required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.

• Ensure cargo is properly loaded, secured, transported, and delivered.

• Verify load information, pickup instructions, delivery locations, and required documentation.

• Maintain accurate mileage, route, delivery, fuel, inspection, and other required records.

• Obtain signatures, bills of lading, delivery confirmations, photographs, or other proof of service when required.

• Follow designated routes and pickup/delivery schedules.

• Communicate delays, accidents, vehicle problems, cargo concerns, or other incidents promptly.

• Comply with applicable federal, state, local, client, and site-specific transportation requirements.

• Maintain their vehicle and equipment in safe operating condition.

• Follow applicable hours-of-service, inspection, cargo-securement, and recordkeeping requirements when those regulations apply to the vehicle or assignment.

• Maintain professional conduct at client, government, construction, commercial, and community sites.

Vehicle Requirements

Because these are owner-operator opportunities, contractors must:

• Own, lease, or otherwise have lawful and consistent access to a reliable vehicle appropriate for the assignments they accept.

• Maintain current vehicle registration.

• Keep all vehicles and trailers used for MFS assignments in safe operating condition.

• Maintain all inspections required for their particular vehicle, equipment, or operation.

• Provide their own necessary vehicle equipment, cargo-securement equipment, PPE, and related operating supplies unless otherwise specified.

• Provide documentation regarding vehicle specifications, capacity, registration, inspections, and ownership/lease arrangements when required for a particular contract.

MFS may seek owner-operators with vehicles including cargo vans, pickup trucks, box trucks, straight trucks, tractor-trailers, flatbeds, dump trucks, equipment trailers, and other commercial or non-CDL vehicles, depending on available contracts.

Insurance Requirements

Contractors must maintain:

• Their own automobile/commercial vehicle insurance appropriate for the vehicle and business activity being performed.

• Appropriate general/commercial liability insurance for their contracted operations.

• Cargo, physical damage, workers' compensation, occupational accident, or other coverage when required by the particular scope of work, client, law, or contract.

• Any contract-specific insurance limits required before accepting an assignment.

Contractors must be able to provide current Certificates of Insurance (COIs) and other proof of coverage upon request.

Unlike the medical courier position, I would not automatically state $1 million as the universal liability requirement here unless MFS has decided that will be its company-wide minimum. Transportation contracts can have very different auto-liability, cargo, and general-liability requirements depending on vehicle type and the customer. Your posting can require appropriate coverage and then impose the exact limits during qualification for each contract.

Licensing, Permits & Regulatory Requirements

Contractors must maintain and make available all credentials applicable to their operation, including, when required:

• Valid driver's license.

• Appropriate Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and class.

• Required CDL endorsements.

• Current vehicle and trailer registrations.

• Medical Examiner's Certificate when applicable.

• USDOT or motor-carrier operating credentials when applicable.

• Applicable state or local operating permits.

• Vehicle inspection documentation.

• Required permits for oversized, overweight, specialized, or regulated loads.

• Any other licenses, endorsements, registrations, permits, or credentials required for the vehicle, cargo, route, or contracted service.

Non-CDL contractors must still maintain all licenses, registrations, insurance, permits, and operating authority applicable to their particular vehicle and work.

Driving Record Requirements

All CDL and Non-CDL Owner-Operators must maintain a clean and acceptable driving record appropriate for the transportation services they perform.

Applicants must be willing to:

• Provide information necessary to review their Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

• Complete required authorization or consent documentation for an MVR review.

• Accurately provide requested driving-history information.

• Disclose applicable license suspensions, revocations, accidents, or moving violations when required during qualification.

• Maintain an acceptable driving record throughout their contracting relationship with MFS.

• Immediately report any suspension, restriction, revocation, expiration, or other change that could affect their legal ability to operate.

• Meet any additional driving standards imposed by MFS clients, insurers, government contracts, or individual projects.

Required Qualifications

Candidates should demonstrate:

• Experience safely operating the type and class of vehicle they intend to use.

• Knowledge of basic transportation and roadway safety practices.

• Ability to safely load, unload, and/or secure cargo when required.

• Ability to conduct basic vehicle safety inspections.

• Strong time-management and route-planning skills.

• Ability to follow written scopes of work, dispatch instructions, and delivery requirements.

• Ability to maintain accurate transportation and delivery documentation.

• Reliable communication and access to a smartphone.

• Ability to work independently and meet established deadlines.

• Professional conduct when interacting with clients, vendors, government personnel, and project teams.

• Ability to satisfy background, security, facility-access, or client-specific requirements when applicable.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to contractors with:

• 2+ years of professional commercial driving or transportation experience.

• Previous owner-operator, independent-contractor, or subcontractor experience.

• Experience with commercial or government transportation contracts.

• Construction-material or equipment transportation experience.

• Heavy-equipment hauling experience.

• Environmental, storm-cleanup, or debris-hauling experience.

• Hazmat, Tanker, Doubles/Triples, or other relevant CDL endorsements.

• Experience operating multiple vehicle or trailer configurations.

• DOT compliance experience.

• Experience with electronic logs, dispatch platforms, bills of lading, manifests, or proof-of-delivery systems.

• OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR/AED, or other relevant safety training.

• Ability to provide additional qualified drivers or vehicles for larger contracts.

Independent Contractor Requirements

This is an independent contractor/owner-operator opportunity, and routes, loads, hours, or assignments are not guaranteed. Opportunities may become available based on MFS contract awards, customer needs, location, equipment requirements, contractor availability, vehicle type, licensing, insurance, and regulatory qualifications.

Owner-operators are generally responsible for their own vehicle, fuel, maintenance, repairs, tires, insurance, licensing, permits, registrations, tolls, taxes, equipment, and other business operating expenses, unless a specific contract expressly provides otherwise.

Before being assigned work, MFS may request documentation necessary to verify that the contractor, driver, vehicle, insurance coverage, and operating authority satisfy the requirements of the particular project.
